Proposition 139

Election season is upon us. As ballots arrive and you research the many candidates and propositions, one in particular has immense ramifications for human lives.

It is rare there is a proposition on the ballot that gives such a clear opportunity to “learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause” (Isaiah 1:17)

Prop 139 in Arizona seeks to amend the Arizona constitution to establish a fundamental right to abortion. For a Christian, why does that matter? Because at the center of the biblical story there is a call to honor and protect the image of God in all humans, from conception, to the grave.

Some critics might say “you cannot legislate morality.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr responded to that very critique in the civil rights movement by saying “Morality cannot be legislated, but behavior can be regulated. Judicial decrees may not change the heart, but they can restrain the heartless.”

We’d urge you to research what is being proposed and vote “no” on proposition 139 for the sake of those who cannot speak for themselves.

In addition to voting, we continue to support the work of our local Community Pregnancy Center, and Agape House of Prescott that bring critical services to families and children both before and after birth.
